Gymetrix advice gives Renfrewshire Leisure a boost

A Renfrewshire Leisure gym has boosted its monthly membership after choosing the fitness equipment mix recommended by Gymetrix.

The manager of The Lagoon in Paisley, run by Renfrewshire Leisure, says it has increased its membership at the busy gym by £32,000 per month thanks to advice from Gymetrix, a system that allows operators to optimise their fitness equipment to achieve maximum customer satisfaction.

The Gymetrix system, which recently won the Spark of Innovation award at ukctive’s FLAME awards 2013, has been used in more than 130 gyms to identify the type, quantity and location of equipment required to deliver a better service to customers, improve retention and maximise return on investment.

Mark Tokeley, operations manager at Renfrewshire Leisure, said: "With all of our fitness suites due to have new equipment over the next three years at a cost of £1.4m, I had to ensure our investment would give our members the equipment they want in the right quantities."

Launched just over two years ago, Gymetrix has identified £3m worth of equipment that is underutilised in 136 private and public gyms where it has carried out studies - equipment that could be removed with little impact on customers experience.

The system uses wireless technology to precisely measure how equipment is used by the gym’s customers. Specially designed software analyses the data to show operators exactly what equipment is used and where. It is designed to let managers to choose the type and quantity of equipment to match customer demand, with no shortages or excesses.

Rory McGown, founder of Gymetrix, said: "Gymetrix has turned setting up gyms from an art into a science. Precise data on customer demand for gym equipment ensures operators do not have shortages, creating bottlenecks and customer dissatisfaction."
